 Senior Support Network (SSN)

At the heart of St. Stephen's is our desire to minister to each other. It is in this spirit that we yearn to address the needs of our seniors, some of whom are no longer able to drive or have difficulty getting around on their own. The Senior Support Network (SSN) is a branch of the LOAF ministry. You might be needed to drive a member to a doctor's appointment, help with grocery shopping, or just visit with someone who is unable to get out but who would love a visit from a caring person.

To take advantage of this opportunity to be a blessing to someone who needs your help, please contact SSN Team Leader Karen Johns.

Women's 50+ Luncheons
Women's 50+ Luncheons

And if you'd like to get out, each second Tuesday of the month, following Women's Bible Study at 10am, we have a Women's 50+ Luncheon in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 11:30am during the months of August through May. We share stories and good food: this is no potluck! Contact Ardell for more information.

Communion Visitation Ministry
Communion Visitation Ministry

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) provides us with a special rite called “Sending of Holy Communion” that may be included in the regular Sunday worship. This rite extends our service of Holy Communion by sending lay ministers (communion visitors) bearing the gifts of God’s word and sacramental meal to those who are unable to be present in public worship. This ministry offers the sick and homebound a means of participating in the worship of the whole church, and it helps those who have gathered publicly to recognize their oneness with sisters and brothers who are absent (ELW-Pastoral Care, p. 81).

At St. Stephen's, our Communion Visitation Ministry ensures that our shut-ins receive the sacrament every month. These lay communion visits are in addition to the pastoral visits already happening, doubling the number of communion visits each shut-in receives in a year.

If you are interested in learning more about this ministry, either as a volunteer or recipient, please contact Pastor Ritva at or 319-693-2087.
