Cleaning the Church
On Saturday, January 28th a group of youth and a couple of adults gathered at the church to do a little deep cleaning. With Swifters, rags, special blackboard cleaner, and a lot of elbow grease the youth worked for a couple of hours. Some climbed ladders and dusted those high parts that do not get touched often. Others spent time cleaning the blackboard walls of the youth room. Still others removed tape and tape residue from glass doors.
After a couple of hours cleaning, the youth went to Subway for a much deserved lunch before continuing on with their Saturday.
Thank you youth for your hard work! The church looks much cleaner now!
Youth Filling Sandbags
Youth, parents and some adults joined together from St Stephen's to help fill sandbags in preparation for the flood in Cedar Rapids.
UNI Middle School Lock-In
On Friday, October 14, three middle school youth headed up to UNI with Mark to attend an overnight lock-in. They joined over 100 youth from throughout Iowa for a night of games, worship, and food. No one slept until the car ride home.
Apple Pie Making 2016
On Saturday, November 12, youth, parents, and church members gathered to make over 275 dutch apple pies. The youth had sold the pies as part of their annual fundraiser. In five hours, all the pies had been made, the pies taken to the freezer to await the next day's delivery, and the fellowship hall had been cleaned and set up for a church lunch the next day. Great work youth and adults! Thank you to all who purchased pies. If you missed out, there is always November of 2017!
Operation Turkey Sandwich 2016
What about people who work on Thanksgiving? How do they enjoy a turkey meal like the rest of us? Well, the youth had an answer for that...we will take a turkey lunch to them. Our youth joined with youth from the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids to make 100 turkey sandwhich sack lunches the night before Thanksgiving. The lunches were divided between the two groups and on Thanksgiving Day, they were delivered to people who were working in our respective neighborhoods. Great time of fellowship and some pretty thankful people on the next day!
Sky Zone Fun
Winter always calls for finding some fun, indoor events. So on January 14, a group of youth went to Sky Zone. Sky Zone is an indoor trampoline park with opportunities to jump on trampoline squares, dive into a foam block pit, soar up to dunk a basket, or even engage in a game of dodge ball on trampolines. After jumping for 90 minutes, we went to a private party room where we had pizza and snacks.
We definitely will be doing this event again!
