Ken Nathan - Council Treasurer
Ken Nathan - Council Treasurer

Ken is a dyed-in-the-wool Lutheran, with both sides of his family having strong Lutheran roots. He grew up on a family farm in northeast Nebraska, in a town of only 800 people and 11 churches. Ken attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and later an MBA. He and his wife Kathy met and married several years later after moving from that same small town. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1978 so he could take a position with Rockwell Collins as a Product Manager, retiring in 2010. Ken and Kathy joined St. Stephen’s in 2001. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Jennifer and Stefanie, and grandparents to two grandchildren, Norah and Harrison. He and Kathy try to visit their grandkids in Minnesota once every month.

In his free time, Ken enjoys watching Nebraska football, basketball and baseball, playing tennis once a week, and taking senior classes with friends. Shortly before retiring, Ken compiled a list of 50 projects to complete in retirement and has managed to finish about 75% of the items on his list so far. He also volunteers as a Road to Recovery driver for the American Cancer Society as well as volunteering at St. Stephen’s. Ken and Kathy have been involved in Koinonia groups since 1980, and he has served on the Long Term Capital/Finance Committee since 2002. Ken also enjoys singing with the choir at church. Ken’s passion for numbers has been an asset to him in his work at Rockwell Collins in developing budgets for his business area, as a member of the Finance Committee, and now as the Council Treasurer.
